INSTITUTE OF ARMAMENT TECHNOLOGY (Deemed University)



For the purpose of providing training programs to the officers of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Institute ofArmament Technology IAT was established in the year 1952. Initially, the institute functioned in the campus of the College of Military Engineering at Dapodi, Pune, it shifted base to its present location at Girinagar, Pune in 1967. In 1980 Pune University recognised its eight courses for the award of ME degree. On the basis of assessment made by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and UGC, the Institute was offered the status of a Deemed University in the year 2000.
The University of Pune gave recognition to the institute’s eight courses for the award of ME degree in the year 1980. Soon after, in 1981,the Institute of Armament Technology spread its wings by making considerable progress from the comparatively narrow range of Armament studies to a much more advanced role given by the Defence R & D Council in 1964 and 1981. At the outset, the Institute exclusively conducted the Technical Staff Course for Army Officers. In due course, to fulfil the requirements of the three Services, DRDO, Defence Quality Assurance, Defence Ordnance Factories, Defence Aeronautical Quality Assurance, and Public Sector Undertakings etc other courses and programmes were added.
Advanced Technical Education related to all branches of engineering and technology of Defence is provided at this institute. The Institute of Armament Technology holds the honour of having trained DRDO Scientists, Indian Army, Navy and Air force officers. Workforce from government and non-governmental organisations, DRDO, Ordinance Factories, Coast Guard, Public Sector Undertakings and educational institutes have been trained at this foremost institute.

Trainings/Programs The following courses (regular short term and long term) are offered to defence personals only. Training courses are available for DRDO officers and capsule courses as per requirement.
